Gymmine Cricket and Me
By Angelina Maria Taylor
Weldon, California
 (January, 2007)

I remember a few years ago when I bought Gymmine Cricket.  A good friend of mine, Deanna Steinhoff, told me this was the perfect horse for me.  She couldn’t have been more right.

Gymmine Cricket helped me become the rider I am today and taught me many valuable lessons.  He taught me hard work, dedication and persistence always has a prize.  It’s not in a trophy or a buckle.  It is a lesson you learn on your own…or in our case, with teamwork.

Gymmine Cricket always gives me 110% on everything he does.  Not just in the show arena, but in his everyday routine.  He is a great traveler, trail horse and companion.  Don’t get me wrong.  He has his “Arabian” moments, but they make him who he is.

2006 was a very new year for both of us.  In getting ready for my Rodeo Queen pageants, I showed him very early in the season and rated him out with his AAA buckle in 2 months.  By the time April came he had the rest of the season off.  I decided then to pursue my rodeo pageants further and to start giving my pony, Jasmin Merrylegs, more arena time. It was time for Gymmine Cricket to teach another rider all he had taught me.

It was a very hard decision but one I have never regretted.  Gymmine Cricket was bought by Kristin Petrovich of Ridgecrest, California, a girl with big dreams like I have and the dedication and desire to follow through with them.

I still see Gymmine Cricket once a month at The Ridgecrest gymkhana shows with Kristin and I enjoy watching them become a team.  They get better with every run and every turn.  I know they will give me and Jasmin Merrylegs good competition someday.

It is an honor to receive the Chappell Award for the third year in a row.  Thank you to the Association of Ridgecrest Arabian Breeders (ARAB) and to Lorry Wagner for this great award and great journey.  Don’t worry.  You will see more of me and Gymmine Cricket in the years to come.  Thank you, Angelina Marie
